Bad lands yield good people

We were very impressed about the hospitality of Gill, Tammy and Tiff, They learned us a lot about the American society, but above all about their personal feelings.
Talking about personal aspects such as religion, general relationships, oil drilling, politics, the army, ups and downs of relatives, Vietnam … We really have found new friends for the rest of our live; irrespective we will meet them physically in the future.

Although our plan was to proceed onwards to the state Montana, they insisted to show us the most beautiful place of ND, i.e Theodore Roosevelt NP or the Bad Lands.

This is the wide valley of the Little Missouri River, which was difficult to cross in the old days and not suitable for agriculture.

President Theodore Roosevelt was so impressed by the natural richness of this area that he transformed it into one of the first National Parks in the US.
As one of the very first things, we a close encounter with … a rattle snake.

This was a very scaring and impressive experience! However, we consider the oil trucks of western ND as more dangerous. Luckily, people promised us that we will leave the oil trucks soon behind us when we enter the desolate roads of Montana. Furthermore, in the park we saw buffaloes,
Bison:
a coyote (a small hyena-like-dog), long horn cows and big horn sheep. Above all, the canyon like landscape of the park was very impressive!
We ended this wonderful day with a cosy dinner in a restaurant in Williston and we spend the night at Gill’s and Tiff’s place close to Williston
